IDMH thoughts 29th March 2018

Had a sit down with Aki my supervisor. It was pretty good. Anyway he started to make me think about the idea of King of the Hill! As maybe a structure for the game. This could work, my main worry is that you have to pass through the zones and this makes the game overly long and not instantaneous. My other research seems to show the favourable qualities in the kind of art game structures I am creating of having works with single rounds. They can be repeated to create a best of scenario, but that is the criteria, that can be a single instantaneous round. So King of the Hill could be that one pair are central and dominant, and the other pairs are trying to take their place.

We also talked about scoring, and how that could soften the buffer of winning and losing a round, and helping to prevent the pulling away from one set of players. We talked on the way ice skating marking works. So that rather than at the moment having a single outright winner, each pair are graded on a number of elements so there is a score scale.

MOMENT OUT OF TIME
Maypole, what is maypole, ok put together the maypole with the handshake, with the hat doffing!

KING OF THE HILl – someone is the kind atop a hill, the others must dislodge them. In tennis there is one person, others line up against them, then take it in turns to play one point. The person who wins the point eventually becomes new king

In video games this can be holding a zone.

SO – one pair are kind of the hill. Then the others around do the handshakes. The first to master it, is then king of the hill.
