So have progressed this work.  Started off with the maypole,  inspired by a picture of some children just after the war swinging on a self-made maypole around a lamppost.  Then reading on Borden and his work on skateboarding and architecture,  a game artwork transformative of the surrounding area, and of the object in the area.  This work could be a strong evidence of the power of accumulation, as I would transform several posts into a maypole, not simultaneously but sequentially.

I spoke with Chris about the idea, and we sketched out how a maypole crown that can attach to several sized pillars and posts – (between a pillar and post).  But have decided for now to call on (M)ollie, brackets, seem to be a branding across the projects, and also reference the way I am using the magic circle, with first letters in brackets.   To show them apart but part of the sentence. Therefore emphasises the visual which is what I am trying to do.

Interesting, the shape of the maypole as it kind of translates the boundary of the circle. In skateboarding, various street furnitures etc assigned tricks to do on them or to interact with them. The game mechanics are looser with this structure than any other. So it swings more to Paidia that Ludic as Cailios would say. It makes me consider Lottie Child’s work and how she intrudes and uses public space. This though has my stamp as transformative of the object and the adjustable top allows the ring to placed on a numbers of pole objects. So maybe the game mechanic, is attribution, that the teams of players seek the maypoles themselves to gain.  Once Chris who I am collaborating with had maybe the actual crown, I tested it with Chris. Just to see how it looked and gauge impact. I have also filmed it to review and try editing with.

I had beforehand made a tour of various lamppost and pillars in Darlo, as am planning part of the research with the public , to fit in with the festival of Innovation in July.  For that I will look at a structure where rather than a set team, people drawn in by the surrounding activity. I found it hard to find poles that were different. So part of the idea that the game is to find interesting objects to make into maypoles could be important.   Also lots of pole structures are close to walls, etc.
